Curator Wine Co 2018 Shiraz
This Barossa Valley Shiraz was sourced from our Marananga vineyard with some smaller parcels coming from Stonewell and Greenock. The hand-picked grapes had a two-day cold soak then naturally fermented using indigenous yeasts. The ferment was hand plunged three times daily for approximately ten days. Then basket pressed and filled into French oak 15-20% new and two ear old USA for three weeks of barrel fermentation followed by 18 months maturation. Dark cherries, blueberries and a well-integrated layer of charry oak make this a powerful but smooth wine.
95 Points – Sam Kim February 2019 – The wine is fabulously composed and expressed on the nose showing dark fruit intensity with dark chocolate, spicy oak and subtle game characters. It’s wonderfully weighted and plush on the palate, delivering terrific fruit purity and richness, leading to a gorgeously long delectable finish. At its best: now to 2033.
95 point – Mike Bennie Australian Wine Business Magazine June 2019
92 points – The Real Review; Ralph Kyte-Powell March 2020 – Coconutty oak initially leads the way on the nose here, with intense dark chocolate, jammy plum and berry, and slightly fumey aromas behind it. It tastes ripe and full, with real depth of oak and berry flavours. With tons of character, this is a satisfying Shiraz for lovers of the big Aussie red.
