Different vineyard this year from the 2024, we now focus on sandy soils for our old vine grenache vineyards rather than richer clay or loam on clay soils (like with the 2024 sourced from Seppeltsfield which is on heavy clay). The lighter soils give a lighter colour as they hold less nutrients so a lighter brighter colour is obtained. This matched with old vines combines with that deep structured old vine flavour, tannin and natural acid structure.
The 2025 comes for a vineyard planted in 1960 on the Barossa Valley floor in Nuriootpa, on lovely deep sandy soil mixed with light loam on a clay base buried far below the root zone. Essentially perfect for Grenache!
Hand picked with 20% whole bunch, fermented in traditional open fermenters for 10 days then pressed into seasoned French oak (no new oak at all), concrete egg and portion remained in tank to retain freshness. Natural Malolactic ferment occurred in barrel where the wine remained for 12 months. Barrels were then selected and blended a month before bottling.
Super bright (nearly like Pinot or Gamay), eminently juicy and delicious but with structure, length all framed by powdery fine tannins.
By far our most complex Grenache to date.
Bottled unfined and unfiltered and is Vegan friendly.
