2024 Curator Black Label Shiraz

$125.00

Its finally back! Our most limited release wine. It is only selected from obvious stand out barrels and not from every vintage. Each year we mature our wines in predominantly French oak barrels sourced from the best forests. Across this range there are differences in how the wine and the oak characters come together, resulting in barrels with different flavour profiles. After 12 months, we select the finest barrels which is kept separately, before bottling. This wine was bottled at 18 months of barrel age so as to retain freshness and primary flavours.

The two barrels kept apart were from our R6 and 1654 clones

Vintage 2024 was back to a near perfect vintage following good winter rainfall and a cool summer. This blend was of two barrels one brand new and one second fill. 100% Handpicked, 10% whole bunches , 12+day traditional ferment then basket pressed into French oak. These barrel selected were perfect and just as importantly did not take away from other blends, beautiful oak that will integrate over time, dark, spicy. Full bodied, dark fruit and spice, amazing powdery tannins and a dark fruited long smooth finish.

Bottled unfined and unfiltered and is Vegan friendly.

98 / 100 Vino Masters

Bottle No. 0308

Opaque and inky in the glass with a deep purple-black core and vibrant crimson rim. The nose is immediately expressive; layers of dark plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit intertwined with mocha, black pepper, warm earth and beautifully integrated French oak spice. On the palate it delivers real concentration and structure: rich dark fruits at the core, framed by chocolate and subtle coconut notes from the oak, a fine thread of minerality, and firm yet refined tannins that give it backbone and serious cellaring potential. The finish is long, powerful and persistent, with excellent depth and a savoury edge that speaks clearly of its Marananga origins on the western Barossa slopes.

★★★★★ Outstanding example of estate-grown Marananga Shiraz with real personality and poise.

  • 2024 was back to traditional form for the Barossa Valley, nice spring rains and warm dry summer without any heat waves or untimely rain events during the ripening period!

Traditionally open fermented with 10% whole bunch and the rest whole berry for 12+ days. Pressed to French oak only with one new Puncheon and a second fill Hogshead barrel. Both were identified at 12 months and kept separate from the rest and bottled after a month or so in tank to settle in early 2026!

  • Home Marananga Vineyard, blend of R6 and 1654 clones from out the front of the winery.

  • Drinking beautifully now to 2040.
